Week 12: Kitchen Dream Come True

Hello everyone and welcome to the 12th week here on Heady Avenue.  It is hard to believe we have been working on our house for just about 3 months. Technically October the 8th will be three months to the day since becoming new home owners. We have accomplished quite a bit in a short amount of time and honestly still wonder how we made it all happen. Of course with the help and support of our parents and other family members this dream became a reality.  And this week all of our wildest dreams came true. It was an emotional week which might seem a bit silly but it truly really was.  Bright and early on Thursday morning Christmas came about 3 months early for us. At the crack of dawn two large trucks pulled in our driveway and started on the most important room in the house: our kitchen.  Of course this is where the main part of the demo took place (and majority of the budget) so to be able to walk in the door and see actual parts of a finished room was breathtaking. Week 11: All of Those Details

Week 11 continued with painting, trim work and carpentry. This week was really special to Matt and I, not only because it was Matt's birthday, but we had our very first get together in our new house. Of course it was just a couple of us sitting around in tailgate chairs watching some football but at least it was inside. Since we salvaged all of the wood we could, it was then his job to put it all back together. We labeled the pieces when we took them down and they were stored in the garage and Glen came in and worked out the puzzle. The walls and ceilings where we put in new drywall required some reworking because the original piece was now to short or to long with the

Week 10: Color Color Color!

Week 10 sure sounds like a long time. I can't believe 10 weeks have already gone by since starting this new adventure. It seems like just yesterday we were getting the keys, I think my sanity would beg to differ, but it sure has been a fun yet challenging ride so far. This week was another tough one, nothing that Matt and I couldn't handle, just some seed bumps to get over. We had to re tile the master shower door because it wasn't right, the knotty pine room got painted the wrong color (even with what I thought was a full proof plan), we discovered we are going to have to purchase new base boards for majority of the first floor, you know random things like that. So the week started off on a high dropped low about mid week then rose back to the top again.  This week the tiling job finished, painting continued, lighting &electrics continued and trim work started. The third and final dumpster was picked up so now we can use our garage as staging and work area to get stu
